Toyota teases GR Supra Supercar chassis build
Japanese powerhouse joining Supercars in 2026
Toyota teased first engine fire-up earlier this month
Toyota has revealed another glimpse into its future in Supercars, teasing the chassis build and welding of a new-for-2026 Gen3 GR Supra.
In a teaser video published Friday, Toyota has taken fans closer to its landmark entry into Supercars with a front row seat to a new Supra chassis build.
It comes after homologation team Walkinshaw Andretti United benched a new-for-2025 chassis, which will be part of the team's Toyota programme in 2026 onwards, most likely as a spare.
Last month, Brad Jones Racing also revealed progress on its very first Toyota GR Supra Supercar chassis, which will also hit the track in 2026.
The Albury-based squad is building the chassis centre section on its in-house jig. It's a first in-house build for BJR, which previous used PACE Innovations-built centres for its Chevrolet Camaros.
BJR will field four Toyotas in 2026, alongside two from WAU.
Confirmed alongside the Japanese brand’s historic move into Supercars, Toyota's arrival will come with V8 power.
The GR Supra Supercars will compete with Toyota's 5.0-litre naturally-aspirated 2UR-GSE V8, which has been used Lexus F performance models, as well as the current LC500.
The first Toyota GR Supra Supercar will be unveiled at a Sydney launch event on Monday September 1, in the lead-up to October's Repco Bathurst 1000, where a car will also be on display.
A prototype Supra is set to hit the track at the end of the month, with a Supra to join a Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro in the United States for wind tunnel testing in December.
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship continues at the AirTouch 500 at The Bend from September 12-14, and will open the Ryco Enduro Cup. Tickets are on sale now.
