Upgraded Toyota Supercars engine ready to roll
New motor set to make competitive debut in Ipswich
Chaz Mostert eighth, Ryan Wood ninth in points
The upgraded Toyota Supercars engine is set to make its competitive debut in Ipswich this weekend, following a several-month long development.
Toyota homologation team Walkinshaw TWG Racing and UK-based engine partner Swindon Powertrains have been working on a reliability upgrade throughout the season, and are set to a deploy the 'B-spec' engine.
The Toyota project hit the ground running in 2026, with Ryan Wood, Chaz Mostert and Andre Heimgartner helping the new Supra to three wins across the first five rounds.
Reigning champion Mostert, Wood and Heimgartner are all in contention to qualify for the 2026 Supercars Finals, with three rounds remaining before the cut-off.

Mostert and Wood hit the track at The Bend Motorsport Park in the days after the Perth round, with over 500km of trouble-free running put on the upgraded 2UR-GSE V8 engine.
A number of Supras are set to receive the upgraded motor — which features revisions in the valvetrain — for this weekend’s Queensland Raceway event.
At the time of publication, Wood's Supra was being fitted with a B-spec engine, while Brad Jones Racing was also preparing for engine changes. Wood, Mostert, Heimgartner and Cameron Hill are all set to receive the new engines for the weekend.
Supra race engines are assembled by Walkinshaw TWG in Melbourne, with Swindon also playing a key role in the development and production of parts.
The work has encompassed two corners of the globe — Swindon has been key in the engine’s development and the production of components, while race engines are assembled by Walkinshaw in Melbourne.
The engines will then be homologated by Supercars engine boss Craig Hasted in Brisbane, before being installed ahead of the weekend’s action.
The critical components have landed well ahead of the all-important Ryco Enduro Cup, which is comprised of the AirTouch 500 at The Bend and the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Mostert and Wood are 228 and 160 points clear of the cut-line respectively heading to this weekend’s Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440.
