Ipswich acid test for resurgent Chaz Mostert
Reigning champion out to add to recent surge
Mostert now 228 points clear of Finals cut-line
The Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 looms as a significant acid test for Chaz Mostert following his return to form in recent rounds.
Following a first six rounds of the season that saw the reigning champion plagued by inconsistency, Mostert has been a force in race trim at recent rounds.
Only Matt Payne, Broc Feeney and Cam Waters have scored more points across the last two rounds than Mostert.
An untimely DNF while running seventh in the Darwin finale cost Mostert a swag of points, and could have made his Finals position look even better heading to Ipswich.
Strategy and race pace have propelled Mostert back towards the front in recent times, but Queensland Raceway — what Mostert jokingly terms as “hands down” his favourite track — will tell a clearer story.
Mostert has a superb record at QR, where he claimed his maiden win back in 2013, two more wins in 2015 and 2017, and claimed podiums each time he visited the venue between 2013 and 2019.
“This is hands down my favourite track on the calendar, it’s only got six corners and with my memory at this age, it’s an easy track for me to remember,” said Mostert, who will be joined by Fabian Coulthard for the enduros.
“I have a lot of fond memories at this track, I won my first Supercars race here and as it’s a home track, a lot of my friends and family come to support.
“It’s the final round of the Sprint Cup this weekend before we head into enduros, we want to make every race count and collect as many points as we can.”
Walkinshaw TWG Racing has been busy since Perth, with the team testing the upgraded Toyota engine following Round 8.
Expected upgrades come at a critical time for both Mostert and Ryan Wood, who are set to head into the Ryco Enduro Cup holding down provisional Finals spots.
Wood also returns to QR to back up a strong 2025 weekend that featured two podiums.
“We had a really strong weekend at QR last year getting two podiums, we want to make sure we have a solid package and maximise our weekend,” Wood said.
“It’ll be good to have Jaxon on the ground with us this weekend, learn more about the car and set-up so we can head into enduros feeling confident.”
Track action at Queensland Raceway commences on Friday.
