Toyota GR Cup driver Kade Davey aiming to be the first Indigenous Supercars driver
18-year old Davey is supported by the Racing Together program
Supercars races in Ipswich this weekend, August 21-23
This weekend’s Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 sees a full three days of racing as stars of today and stars of tomorrow take to Queensland Raceway.
Along with the Repco Supercars Championship are several of the country’s top development categories, with dozens of young drivers aspiring to climb atop the Australian motorsport ladder.
Among those is 18-year old Kade Davey, who dreams of becoming the first Indigenous Supercars driver.
The West Aussie of Mandjindja descent races in Toyota GR Cup, and is a key part of the Racing Together program, dedicated to providing a pathway for young Indigenous talents to forge a career in motorsport.
Originally from WA, Davey moved to the Gold Coast in 2023 to join Racing Together and the renowned Norwell Motorplex, owned by Australian motorsport icon Paul Morris.
"While I was racing in the Australian Karting Championship, I found out about Racing Together through Michael Patrizi [driver manager] at the time," Davey said at Norwell.
"Myself and my Mum reached out to Garry Connelly and Monique [Racing Together founders], and we just told them a little bit about who I am and what I wanted to achieve, and then I got invited over to doi a test day in an Excel.
"That's kind of how it all started, from there I went to do a race meeting, went ok in that, and then at the end of 2023 got accepted into the team.
"I did a year of Excel racing in 2024, then last year I raced Scholarship and GR Cup, and this year I'm racing GR Cup again."
Norwell is known for developing many of today’s Supercars talents, including Brodie Kosetcki, Anton De Pasquale Broc Feeney, Kai Allen and many others.
Davey has taken on mentorship from Morris and Kostecki, and is in the second year of mechanical apprenticeship that also sees him work on his own race car.

"The ultimate goal for me is to be the first Indigenous Supercars driver, that's where I want to end up," Davey continued.
"It's such a long journey, and it already feels like we've come so far from karting to Excels and 86s, but really it's only starting now.
"I'm definitely excited to see what we can do at Queensland Raceway this weekend, a home race, so not too far away which is nice. I'm excited to get out on track."
Toyota GR Cup is among four support categories racing at this weekend’s Ipswich Super 440.
The event is also the final round of Supercars’ Repco Sprint Cup, with the championship leader at the end of the weekend booking his ticket to the Supercars Finals.
Matt Payne leads Feeney by 118 points heading into this weekend, with Cam Waters a distant but mathematical chance to take the honours.
Fans can meet the entire Supercars field on Thursday night at Supercars Fan Fare at Tulmur Place in Ipswich CBD. Festivities begin at 4:30pm AEST, with an all-driver signing session from 5:00pm.
Tickets and corporate hospitality options for Supercars’ return to Queensland Raceway can be purchased via Supercars.com and Ticketek. Live coverage of the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 can be found on Foxtel and Kayo Sports.
