Fastest lap bonus points will be on offer at this weekend’s Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight, adding more intrigue to the title battle.

Erebus Motorsport teammates Will Brown and Brodie Kostecki are separated by just seven points heading to Sydney.

Saturday’s race, a 200km 51-lapper, will be the first night race of the Gen3 era — and it comes with a number of twists.

Not only will there be refuelling and a compulsory pit stop (CPS), fastest lap bonus points will be on offer.

Per Supercars’ Operations Manual, the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight is classed as a ‘Sprint Event’.

All sprint events offer five bonus points for the driver that sets the fastest lap of the race.

At normal SuperSprint events, where 100 points are awarded to the winner, drivers earn five per cent of the race-winning haul.

Five points were also allocated in the Albert Park sprints, which awarded 75 points to the winner.

Five points will be awarded to drivers who set the fastest lap in Sydney, despite both races being worth 150 points for the winner.

Drivers must, however, finish in the top 15 to be eligible for fastest lap points.

Broc Feeney has set the fastest lap in three sprint races this season, the most of any driver.

Cam Waters has done it twice, with one instance each for Scott Pye, Shane van Gisbergen, Todd Hazelwood, James Golding, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom, Chaz Mostert and Jack Le Brocq.

The CPS for the night race will feature an 80-litre fuel drop, with drivers to race on the Dunlop Soft tyre compound.

Strategy will be a major talking point, given some drivers may attempt a two-stop in a bid to reach the chequered flag faster.

Each driver will have six sets of tyres to get through qualifying and the two races after Saturday’s two practice sessions.

Practice 1 for the Repco Supercars Championship commences on Saturday at 12:15 local time.
