Scott McLaughlin claimed Supercars record 16 poles in 2017
Broc Feeney has 10 poles with 12 races remaining in 2025
Feeney became seventh driver to claim 10 or more poles in a season
A hallmark of Broc Feeney's brilliant 2025 campaign has been supreme qualifying performance, and it's putting the Triple Eight star in rare air.
Through seven rounds this year, Feeney has claimed 10 poles in 22 attempts, despite the 2025 season already recording nine different pole winners.
Given his form, it's not out of the question that Feeney could reset a long-standing Supercars record currently held by qualifying king Scott McLaughlin.
In four seasons with DJR Team Penske between 2017 and 2020, McLaughlin claimed a stunning 59 pole positions. Of the 13 instances a driver claimed 10 or more poles in a season, five were recorded by McLaughlin.
McLaughlin's best season was 2017, which ironically, was his only DJR Team Penske campaign without a championship. In 26 attempts in 2017, McLaughlin claimed pole 16 times, at a 62% strike rate.
McLaughlin took the record off Jamie Whincup in Bathurst with his remarkable Shootout lap. Whincup claimed a then record 13 poles in 2013, with McLaughlin nailing 15 in 2019 and 2020.
Feeney would need to claim 11 of the final 12 poles on offer to beat McLaughlin's strike rate, but as for the magic 16, it's well within reach. He could also match the driver he replaced, Whincup, with a sweep at Ipswich.
With five rounds and 12 races remaining, Feeney could clinch this year's Boost Mobile Pole Award, and the $50,000 cash prize, at the upcoming Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440.
Feeney can seal the Boost Mobile Pole Award with a clean sweep of poles at Ipswich, taking his tally to 13 poles with nine remaining.
Feeney could also clinch the pole award with two poles and a second, but in that scenario needs Brodie Kostecki to not score pole, and Cam Waters to not qualify on the front row for any of the three races.
The 2025 Supercars season resumes at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440. Supercars drivers will contest three races at the August 8-10 event. Tickets are on sale now. International viewers can watch the action on SuperView.
