Brown spins, but gaps the field in Practice 2

Will Brown has made a big statement at the betr Darwin Triple Crown, gapping the field in Practice 2 despite two big offs at Turn 1.

Brown clocked a 1:06.2120s to end up 0.3s ahead of the next best driver, Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Broc Feeney, after 30 minutes of practice.

However, Brown didn't have it all his own way after setting his fast lap, first running off into the Turn 1 escape road before spinning into the grass at the same corner.

Cam Waters ended up third, some 0.4181s off the pace, with Anton De Pasquale and Bryce Fullwood rounding out the top 10.

Race 11 provisional pole-sitter James Golding was just 19th, 0.8617s off the pace, ahead of Chaz Mostert, whose struggles continued in 20th.

Thomas Randle opened proceedings with a 1:06.8795s, with David Reynolds (1:06.9440s) and Brown (1:06.9725s) within 0.1s of the #55 Castrol Ford.

Waters unseated his Tickford teammate with a 1:06.6301s, with Andre Heimgartner slotting into second with a 1:06.6899s.

As the balance of the field came into pit lane, De Pasquale moved to second with a 1:06.6331s.

All the while, Mostert was 23rd, some 0.7702s behind Waters. Mostert moved to 15th with a 1:07.0746s, but was still 0.4445s behind his former teammate.

Brown kicked off the second runs with a 1:06.2120s, putting a whopping 0.4181s on Waters before returning to pit lane.

In the final 10 minutes, Feeney moved to second with a 1:06.5122s, but was still 0.3002s behind Brown, who ran down the escape road at Turn 1.

Waters also bowled a wide and made a hairy rejoin in front of Brodie Kostecki, before Brown spun off again at Turn 1.

Brown's time held firm for the rest of the session, with Heimgartner, Randle, Nick Percat, Will Davison and Reynolds rounding out the top 10.

Track action will resume on Saturday with the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 11:35am ACST/12:05pm AEST.

The first race of the weekend, the 48-lap Race 11, will get underway at 3:10pm ACST/3:40pm AEST.
