Eight drivers with mountain of Bathurst mileage ahead

As the build-up for the Repco Bathurst 1000 continues to gather momentum, a select group of drivers will be preparing themselves for not just one event, but two.

Super2 Series leader Lochie Dalton, Tickford Autosport teammates Reuben Goodall and Nash Morris, Brad Vaughan, Bayley Hall, and Zak Best will all compete across both tiers of Supercars on the mountain.

They will be joined by Porsche Carrera Cup stars Harri Jones and David Russell in completing double duties across Bathurst weekend, making for an eight-strong double duty class. Carrera Cup was also in action at The Bend, giving Jones and Russell a preview of what's to come.

While that is down on a whopping 11 drivers who were contesting multiple categories at Bathurst last year, what doesn't diminish is the talent and calibre of driver.

Dalton, Goodall and Vaughan represent three of the top four drivers in the Super2 standings through the opening half of the development series.

Jones has carved out a reputation as one of Australia's great Porsche aces, levelling Jim Richards' Carrera Cup win tally at The Bend, while Russell has three Bathurst podiums in his last five attempts.

Of the eight, two will be on double duties for the first time in their young careers, namely Goodall and Hall. Tickford young gun Goodall excelled in trying conditions at The Bend to run second early, while Hall will team up with Craig Lowndes 20 years on from the latter's iconic win in 2006.

Goodall faces a two-pronged title challenge in Bathurst, as he not only sits second in the Super2 standings after his first win in Perth, but also has co-driver Thomas Randle's season on the line in a last gasp Finals crunch.

“It’s going to be a very busy weekend, although it will be the same for everyone, no matter what they did with the schedule,” Goodall told Supercars.com.

“But it’s going to be an awesome weekend. It’s going to be really fun to be in the car for so much time across the weekend at Bathurst.

“Obviously I’m with Tickford for both, which is going to be a huge help. I don’t need to jump between team environments like some of the other boys will."

Last year, Erebus Motorsport's Jobe Stewart starred across his double duties, enjoying what was his strongest weekend of a difficult Super2 campaign with Image Racing, before featuring in the fight for the Great Race all day alongside Cooper Murray.

With Stewart now spearheading Erebus' #9 Camaro alongside former Super2 teammate Jarrod Hughes, Goodall and co have a lofty benchmark to hit at Bathurst.

The DUNLOP Super2 Series will contest their fourth round of a six-round series at Bathurst, with on-track action beginning on Thursday, October 8.
