Lochie Dalton leads BRT one-two in opening Super2 practice
Fords fill top five despite Holden parity change
Opening 40-minute Sandown session runs green throughout
Blanchard Racing Team duo Lochie Dalton and Bailey Sweeny have gone one-two in the opening practice session for the DUNLOP Super2 Series at Sandown.
The BRT teammates were the only drivers to dip into the 1:09's in the opening hit out at Sandown, with Dalton leading the way on a 1:09.8155s.
There was interest in how Holden was going to perform following their pre-event parity adjustment, but the season-long trend of Ford and Dalton domination continued early.
The series leader was the first to break through the 1:10s barrier early on just his fifth lap, while Sweeny, who secured his first career pole last time out at Bathurst, joined him on a 1:09.9587s on his seventh lap.
Tickford Fords filled out the top five through the opening half of the session, with Ben Gomersall, Nash Morris, and Campbell Logan, though the fourth Tickford entry of Reuben Goodall was a little ways down in 12th.
Every driver's fastest time was completed in the first half of the session as teams focused on longer race runs, whilst the likes of Declan Fraser and Tommy Smith got familiar with their new rides.
Smith ended the session 17th in his first drive of an Anderson Motorsport Mustang, whilst Fraser, who stepped into the Matt Stone Racing Commodore vacated by the rookie, was 14th.
The top Holden was Brad Jones Racing's Matt Hillyer in sixth, despite only completing eight laps, with Eggleston Motorsport's Elliott Cleary in seventh, and title contender Brad Vaughan eighth ahead of the returning Aaron Love and Bayley Hall.
The session ran green throughout all 40 minutes, with no major on track incidents to speak of.
The second and final practice session of the day will commence at 1:45pm AEDT.
