Declan Fraser makes shock return to Super2
Fraser steps into MSR Commodore for Sandown round
Tommy Smith departs MSR to jump into Ford
Declan Fraser will make a shock return to the DUNLOP Super2 Series in a Matt Stone Racing Holden, after Tommy Smith switched teams and cars.
Fraser, who departed PremiAir Racing after the Repco Bathurst 1000, will drive for MSR at this weekend's Penrite Oil Sandown 500.
Smith, who contested the first four rounds in an MSR-prepared Commodore, shifts into a Ford Mustang. It's understood Smith will move into an Anderson Motorsport Ford, with the Bathurst team running Jonathon Webb at Mount Panorama after Zak Best moved on.
Smith will continue his 2026 TA2 campaign with Matt Stone Racing, where he claimed wins at The Bend and Queensland Raceway.
"We thank Tommy for his efforts with MSR and wish him all the best as he takes on this new opportunity to test out Ford machinery with another Super2 team. We look forward to continuing to work with him in TA2 and finishing the season strongly together," MSR owner Matt Stone said.
On Fraser's call-up, Stone added: “It’s great that Declan was able to step in with such short notice, he has a lot of experience and no doubt will be a great addition. We’re looking forward to having him on-board at Sandown.”
2022 Super2 champion Fraser is out to win, saying: “I feel extremely privileged to have received the call from Matt and the team at MSR saying they need a driver for the weekend. The racer in me doesn’t need to be asked twice.
"The team has shown promise this year. I hope to bring my enthusiasm and experience to the weekend to get a result for all the hard work MSR puts in.
“The competitor in me wants to go out there to win it, especially with the opportunity I’ve been given. The reality is we won’t know where we’re at until we get into the first phases of the weekend to see what sort of pace we have. I can’t wait to work with the team’s engineers to try to extract some speed, then turn that into results for them.
“I’m familiar with the ZB from my time in the T8 wildcard alongside Craig Lowndes at the 1000. I love the car, so it will be a bit of a homecoming of sorts."
Fraser won't be the only former Supercars full-timer in the Super2 field, with Aaron Love returning to complete his part-time schedule with Eggleston Motorsport.
