Lochie Dalton not letting up in pursuit of maiden Super2 title
BRT driver holds 114-point advantage with four races remaining
Dalton could wrap up 2026 Super2 title with a round to spare
Runaway DUNLOP Super2 Series leader Lochie Dalton isn't quite ready to dare to dream despite there just being four races left in the 2026 development series.
Dalton is in the box seat, having claimed half of the race wins for the year to date in a dominant campaign with the Blanchard Racing Team, opening up a 114-point advantage over Brad Jones Racing's Brad Vaughan with 600 on offer for the rest of the season.
That margin blew out last time out at Bathurst, aided by Tickford's Reuben Goodall being taken out in an awkward opening race tangle with teammate Ben Gomersall, before Vaughan closed with a Race 2 win.
However, Dalton minimised the damage to finish second behind Vaughan, and in turn secured his second round win of the season. Despite a starring season to date, the 24-year-old isn't getting ahead of himself despite inching ever closer to the title.
“Yeah it’s good, but it can change so quick, we’ve seen what happened with Reuben and Gommo and whatnot," Dalton said.
“It’s Super2, you get taken out on the start line or something and you’re not leading the championship.
“We’ve just to keep doing what we’re doing and stay out of trouble, and see where we end up. We'll just focus on our stuff.”
Dalton can wrap up the 2026 title a round early in Sandown, should he stretch out his advantage to 300 points or more, with the top six all within a round's worth of points.
Dalton will need to outscore Vaughan by a minimum of 187 points across Sandown's two races to clinch the title with a round to spare, while Nash Morris (-165), Campbell Logan (-174), Reuben Goodall (-246), and Ben Gomersall (-300) all need big weekends to keep their hopes alive.
However, it is by no means a done deal, with Sandown having a recent history of seeing title leads whittled away, or even turned into massive deficits.
Jack Le Brocq saw a 51-point lead evaporate into a 67-point disadvantage he never recovered from after being caught up in a Turn 1 pile-up in 2016, while Zak Best's advantage in 2023 was halved from 66 to 33 points after he got tagged into a spin at the bottom end of the circuit. Both Le Brocq and Best failed to win the title.
The penultimate round of the 2026 DUNLOP Super2 Series will commence on Friday November 6 at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500.
