Broc Feeney has suggested the new Toyota may not be the finished product, but Chaz Mostert remains bullish as the highly anticipated 2026 season opener draws closer.

All 24 Supercars will share the track for the first time in Sydney for pre-season testing on Wednesday and Thursday, before drivers start the season proper on Friday.

The introduction of the new Supra has been highly anticipated since the project was announced in September 2024. After an extensive testing and development program, the talking will stop when lights go out on Friday night for Race 1 of the new campaign in Sydney.

Amid his own questions over the Toyota's performance, Feeney believes the new Supra's saving grace could be the Finals system that was introduced last year, where points are reset for the top 10 drivers after Bathurst.

Walkinshaw TWG Racing star Chaz Mostert famously won the 2025 title after a superb run in The Finals, denying the dominant Feeney, who had won 14 races throughout the year, nine more than anyone else could manage.

"This new championship format favours them. They've just gotta be in the top 10 by the time you get to Gold Coast,” Feeney told Fox Sports News.

"And then if you've learned enough throughout the year, you’ve got a shot to win the championship.

"Giving it the eyeball test, it looks extremely racy. It looks a very fast car. But we'll see this weekend. There's so many things — is it fast, is it reliable?

"There’s a lot for them to learn, but how exciting. We've got Toyota on the grid of Supercars.”

Feeney got a good look at the Toyota last week, rolling out at Queensland Raceway before testing his Triple Eight Ford alongside a Walkinshaw TWG Supra and Team 18 Camaro at Mount Panorama.

Feeney has already laid down the gauntlet to his rivals, claiming there’s no reason why he and his team can’t fight for wins at Round 1.

How Feeney rebounds from his 2025 heartbreak will be one of the stories of the new season, given the Queenslander has already claimed there is “bad blood” with Ryan Wood following the controversial clash in the Adelaide finale.

However, if the Toyota camp are concerned, they're not showing it. In fact, they're talking up their chances.

Mostert has gone so far to declare that all three manufacturers will come out of the gates throwing punches this weekend in Sydney.

Mostert has become acquainted with his brand new GR Supra, which was the same chassis that was sent to America for successful aerodynamic parity testing, over the course of his testing laps at Queensland Raceway and Bathurst.

Mostert appeared with Walkinshaw TWG Racing teammate Ryan Wood on Network Seven's Sunrise yesterday, and declared that he was impressed by the Toyota package through pre-season.

"I'm really confident about the year ahead, the car looks fantastic," said the reigning champion.

"We did a bit of testing towards the end of last year, and it's looking really good.

"I think it's gonna be game on for all three manufacturers.

"We generally go pretty good at SMP, so we're excited to start the year here, and night racing's always one of those really cool ones.

He also talked up the potential of different approaches being taken into the second iteration of the Finals Series, after Walkinshaw built their campaign towards a Finals surge, with Mostert and Wood often the two fastest cars.

However, Mostert suggested that there could be others deploying similar tactics this year: "Second year of Finals Series as well, that's going to be interesting.

"Everyone knows how it all kind of works now, so I'm expecting to see people do some different things to what they did last year.

'I think any time you can add chaos to the sport, or the unknown, it's always entertaining, so looking forward to it."

Fans can catch the new look cars at the DUNLOP Sydney 500 on February 20-22. Tickets, including for DUNLOP Free Friday, are on sale now.
