The unfinished business driving Coulthard

Fabian Coulthard was captured smiling alongside a laughing Greg Murphy as the world watched Chaz Mostert down a beer at Robbo's famous backyard bar alongside Conrod Straight.

At the surface, Mostert's typical larrikin antics lifted spirits. Deep down, however, there was a feeling that another golden chance at Bathurst glory went begging for his co-driver.

In the 11 months since, though, Coulthard has been itching to get back into the car and write the wrongs of a tough enduro campaign that preceded championship glory for Mostert.

Coulthard rejoins Walkinshaw TWG Racing for a fifth straight season, and third with Mostert. After a Bathurst podium together in 2022, the Mostert/Coulthard pairing was first caught short by a strategy gamble at The Bend, before the Bathurst DNF.

Heading into this year's endurance season, Coulthard is determined to make the next two rounds count.

"I’ve been marking off the days on my calendar to jump back in the car since Monday after Bathurst last year," said Coulthard, who claimed Bathurst podiums in 2017 and 2022.

"It’s great to be back with Chaz for the enduro season this year, we definitely have a lot of unfinished business together and that makes us even hungrier this year."

The upcoming AirTouch 500 at The Bend marks Coulthard's competitive debut in the Toyota Supra, in which he played a key role in the development of.

Coulthard, a veteran of over 400 Supercars starts, was among the first to test the Gen3 Supra towards the end of 2025, before watching on as it raced throughout 2026.

From Friday, he will be brought full circle as he steps into Mostert's #1 Mobil 1 Optus Supra in Friday practice, more than 12 months after he tested at Winton.

"I'm really, really excited," the 13-time Supercars race winner said.

"It's obviously a new program with the Toyota, so I'm pretty excited. Had a little bit to do with it last year in its infancy, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it's evaluated over time.

"Just being a part of that program, I think you've seen a lot of these things over the years, new marques come in and go, but seeing this one from the start, it's been a pretty impressive organisation in the way that it's come about, and the success has been out of the gate pretty good.

"Not everyone gets the glory of coming to the race track. There's lots of crew members back at the workshop that have spent lots of countless hours creating this product in the Toyota Supra.

"So for us to get to go and race it is a real honour."

Mostert is 242 points ahead of 11th heading to Tailem Bend.
