Toyota fleet's emphatic response at enduro test

For all of the noise surrounding Chaz Mostert's Sunday DNF, the Toyota fleet delivered a resounding response at Tuesday's pre-enduro test day at Queensland Raceway.

Mostert was a shock retirement from Sunday's Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440 finale, in what was a bittersweet footnote on an otherwise promising debut weekend for Toyota's 'B-spec' engine.

In a precautionary move, all five Supras — the two Walkinshaw TWG Racing cars, and the three Brad Jones Racing entries — reverted to the original 'A-spec' engine for Tuesday's test.

Following five engine changes across the five cars, Supras led the way on mileage at Tuesday's test. In fact, four of the top six cars on laps logged were Toyotas, with the other two from Penrite Racing.

The day's pace setting Cameron Hill/Brad Vaughan Toyorta logged the most laps of any car with 198, which equates to over 600 kilometres of running. Just behind was the sister Macauley Jones/Jordan Boys car.

Next was the Matt Payne/Will Davison Ford, which had been fitted with a spare engine after Payne's Sunday DNF. Penrite Racing confirmed the engine failure had been caused by a catastrophic valvetrain issue.

The Andre Heimgartner/Bryce Fullwood and Mostert/Fabian Coulthard Supras sandwiched the Kai Allen/Tim Slade Ford, with Zach Bates/Aaron Seton making up for the laps lost by the brake failure induced crash for Harri Jones' sister Matt Stone Racing Camaro.

The Jack Le Brocq/Jones Chevrolet has been sidelined for Wednesday's ride sessions, which will also be held at Queensland Raceway.

Ironically, it was the car of Payne's chief Repco Sprint Cup rival, Broc Feeney, which suffered late dramas. Feeney's Triple Eight Mustang has undergone an engine change after an issue on the final lap the test.

Feeney's Ford lost power on the last lap of the day, with the points leader shutting off his Ford to avoid further damage. Ford engine supplier Triple Eight has removed the damaged motor, which will be analysed in coming days.

It was the third engine issue for Ford this week, following issues for Payne and Rylan Gray. Gray's Dick Johnson Racing Ford was struck down by a locked exhaust cam, triggering an engine change between Saturday's sprints.

Track action at The Bend will commence on Friday September 11.
