New GR Supra to make competitive debut in Sydney on February 20-22
Andre Heimgartner has become the latest incoming Toyota Supercars driver to sample the new GR Supra as the 2026 season nears.
The Brad Jones Racing driver was joined by teammate Macauley Jones and Fabian Coulthard at Winton Motor Raceway on Wednesday.
There, the Toyota testing program continued as Heimgartner got behind the wheel ahead of the Supra’s competitive debut in Sydney next month.
Heimgartner’s laps come after Walkinshaw Andretti United — which will be rebranded as Walkinshaw TWG Racing in February — stars Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood got their first laps late last year.
The last remaining 2026 Toyota driver to get laps in the new Supra is BJR recruit Cameron Hill, who joins the Albury squad after three years with Matt Stone Racing.
The new season will also see Heimgartner make history, with the New Zealander becoming the seventh driver to contest championship races for five or more brands.
The Kiwi debuted in a Super Black Ford in 2014, before racing for Holden (2016-17, 2022), Nissan (2018-19), Ford (2020-21) and Chevrolet (2023-25).
Wednesday’s Winton laps were the latest in an exhaustive testing program for the Supra, although the car used on Wednesday had been fitted with new aerodynamic parts following wind tunnel testing in the United States late last year.
Out of the five Toyota GR Supras set to contest the 2026 season, four will be brand new cars.
WAU is building two new cars for defending champion Mostert and Wood.
The brand-new cars will be eligible for a 60km shakedown at Winton prior to the Pre-Season Test Day in Sydney on Wednesday February 18.
