WAU, BJR to lead Toyota's Supercars charge in 2026
Walkinshaw Andretti United drivers Chaz Mostert and Ryan Wood have had their first taste of what’s to come in 2026.
New Repco Supercars Champion Mostert and rising star teammate Wood sampled the new Toyota GR Supra Supercar for the first time on Tuesday.
The WAU drivers got behind the wheel of the car at Winton Motor Raceway, where the new car has completed the bulk of its on track running amid a busy testing program.
The duo's first laps come after the conclusion of the 2025 season, with Mostert and Wood completing their racing commitments with WAU team under its Ford guise.
Out of respect to their ongoing commitments to Ford, Mostert and Wood have largely remained tight-lipped over the Toyota change.
In May, Mostert said on Supercars' Drivers Only podcast: “Walkinshaw I feel has always been so respectful with any relationships they’ve had between sponsors or manufacturers in the past.
“It’s a big respect thing to Ford for us this year to make sure we still do the job for that and not just focus on what we’re doing for next year.
“I think the resources with what Walkinshaw Andretti United are doing, they’ve been lucky enough to have some really smart people in there that have got really great design backgrounds and are really focusing on that project for next year.
“Then guys like [engineers] Sammy [Scaffidi] and Rich [Harris] that are really taking the lead foot on the set-up stuff for performance this year on the Ford. We’ve separated our resources a little bit.”
WAU has been charged with the development of the new Toyota, with a Supra model also in the United States undertaking wind tunnel testing.
Mostert, Wood, Andre Heimgartner, Cameron Hill and Macauley Jones will lead Toyota’s charge in 2026, with Brad Jones Racing also joining the Supra brigade.
Jones was present at the first track day for the Supra back in September, with Warren Luff and Fabian Coulthard doing the balance of testing in the car.
Penrite Racing and Erebus Motorsport also completed evaluation days at Winton this week.
