Brodie Kostecki cops Perth Saturday grid penalty
Hometown hero one of four penalised after Race 23 qualifying
Kostecki, Jayden Ojeda, Jobe Stewart, Zach Bates also penalised
Championship contender Brodie Kostecki was one of four drivers to receive a grid penalty for Saturday's Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440 opener.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team driver qualified sixth for Race 23, with Ford rival and championship leader Matt Payne beating Cam Waters to pole position.
Kostecki has, however, been demoted two positions for the race after being found to have impeded Andre Heimgartner.
Heimgartner caught Kostecki heading into the Turn 7 braking zone, with officials deeming the Dick Johnson Racing driver had impeded the Brad Jones Racing Supra.
It's the second time in four rounds that Kostecki has copped an impeding penalty, after being cited for baulking Jackson Walls in Tasmania.
The penalty coincidentally moves Heimgartner and Kostecki's teammate Rylan Gray up one position each, with Heimgartner, Gray and Kostecki to start from sixth, seventh and eighth.
Kostecki enters Saturday 187 points behind leader Payne, with Broc Feeney — who will start from 13th — 92 points behind the Bathurst champion.
Jayden Ojeda, Jobe Stewart and Zach Bates were also penalised for impeding.
Ojeda was weaving and warming his tyres when Cooper Murray tried to round up the PremiAir Racing Camaro at Turn 1. Stewart was tipped into the Turn 7 sand after a clash with Ryan Wood, while Bates was found to have impeded Wood's teammate Chaz Mostert into Turn 6.
Ojeda, Bates and Stewart had only qualified 20th, 23rd and 24th.
