Finals winners and losers: Mostert continues surge, Kostecki stumbles

Perth might be looked back upon as the round that broke the back of the 2026 Repco Sprint Cup, but there were also some big moves made just outside the Finals bubble.

With just three rounds remaining until the 10-strong Finals contingent is set, there are several key battles that are tightening both in and out of the 10, and all could have major implications on the remainder of the regular season.

But who have been the key movers and shakers from the weekend? Supercars.com picks out the big winners and losers from the Bosch Power Tools Perth Super 440.

Winner: Matt Payne

If he wasn't already before, Matt Payne is well and truly in the box seat for the Repco Sprint Cup. Two wins from three leaves the Kiwi with 118 points to play with at Ipswich, whilst Sunday win was mighty on several fronts. First, overcoming left rear wheel damage, and second landing a telling blow over rival Broc Feeney.

Loser: Brodie Kostecki

On the flip side, Brodie Kostecki was already facing an uphill to claim the Sprint Cup, but now he's dropped to the chasing pack. A controversial collision with Kai Allen on Saturday was compounded by a refuelling error on Saturday. Another poor weekend in Ipswich could easily drop him as far back as sixth.

Winner: Chaz Mostert

After Darwin, Chaz Mostert was only 51 points clear, and in genuine danger. In two rounds, in the face of pressure and scrutiny, Mostert has put a staggering 177 points between himself and the cut-line. Form is temporary, class is permanent. Next stop, Ipswich, where Mostert has a great record. More big points there, and his destiny will be in his own hands.

Winner: Thomas Randle

Thomas Randle has been the man of the match in recent weeks, clawing back 111 points on the bubble in two rounds. Perth was again exactly what was needed, finishes of ninth, 10th, and 10th. Not only that, but he also has an enduro co-driver in Reuben Goodall who will be riding the wave of confidence after a maiden Super2 win. The comeback is well and truly on.

Loser: James Golding

Everything was set up perfectly for James Golding to launch back into the top 10 on Sunday. A top 10 qualifying berth looked like being converted to a top 10 finish before a wheel gun failure plummeted him out of contention. As a result, his gap to 10th has slightly extended to 20 points.

Winner: Andre Heimgartner

It was only three short weeks ago that Andre Heimgartner declared that his season was as good as done after a Townsville engine failure. Yet, a strong showing in Perth have put him right back in contention, jumping ahead of Jayden Ojeda into 13th, and crushing his deficit to the bubble from 175 to 128 points.
