Ryan Wood quickest, teams hit trouble in Sunday morning Warm Up
Wood/Jayden Ojeda Ford quickest ahead of Tickford Racing wildcard
AirTouch 500 at The Bend to start at 1:45pm local/2:15pm AEST
The Sunday morning Warm Up was meant to be a calm systems check ahead of the AirTouch 500 at The Bend, but it was anything but for a number of teams.
The #2 Mobil 1 Truck Assist Ford Mustang of Ryan Wood/Jayden Ojeda ended the 20-minute session on top, with the #5 Tickford Racing wildcard entry of Lochie Dalton/Rylan Gray a solid second.
Teams cycled through pit stop practice, including driver changes, in the effort to blow any remaining cobwebs out before the race.
However, there was plenty of drama up and down the lane, leaving teams scratching their heads ahead of the first Ryco Enduro Cup race of the season.
The session began with another Safety Car procedure trial, before drivers were released in anger.
Wood set the first benchmark representative time of the session with a 1:50.5694s ahead of Walkinshaw Andretti United teammate Chaz Mostert, with Garth Tander (1:51.1821s) and Mark Winterbottom (1:51.2249s) behind.
The session wasn't without its headlines, with Will Davison's co-driver Tony D'Alberto nearly centre-punching the rear of Dalton's Tickford wildcard into Turn 1.
The incident occurred as the Super2 star exited pit lane, with D'Alberto approaching at racing speed and taking evasive action. The incident was cleared by stewards.
Penrite Racing, meanwhile, appeared to strike trouble on the right front of the Matt Payne/Tander #19 Mustang during a pit stop. PremiAir Racing's James Golding took out tyres from the Erebus Motorsport pit bay, while the passenger side door popped open on the Cameron Hill/Cameron McLeod car as it left its pit bay.
Scott Pye put the #1 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet into third with a 1:51.1430s, with Ojeda and Fabian Coulthard taking the reins of their respective WAU Fords. Dalton, meanwhile, put the #5 wildcard Mustang into second with a 1:50.8320s.
Pye then handed over to Brown, only for a twisted belt to lead to a 21-second driver change.
All told, only five cars were in the 1:50s, with the pole-sitting Broc Feeney/Jamie Whincup car 22nd.
The 102-lap AirTouch 500 at The Bend will commence at 1:45pm local/2:15pm AEST. Fox Sports 506 and Kayo Sports take live coverage. International viewers can watch on SuperView.
