Macauley Jones, Jaxon Evans stun on banner day for BJR
Jones qualified career-best fourth, finishes fifth in second race
Evans one of five drivers to claim dual top 10s on Saturday
Saturday was a career day for Macauley Jones and Jaxon Evans, who added to a banner day for Brad Jones Racing in Tasmania.
The day began with BJR being announced as Toyota’s second team, joining Walkinshaw Andretti United in the Japanese giant’s family for 2026.
Come the first race, and Bryce Fullwood pieced together a stunning performance to finish third, marking his third Supercars podium and second with BJR.
After a torrid first race, being penalised for hitting Will Davison, Jones started out of fourth and held his nerve through the opening stint.
The BJR crew returned the Pizza Hut Chevrolet to the race in a strong position after a fast stop, before slipped to fifth — which was still his career-best solo Supercars finish.
Evans, meanwhile, raced to seventh and eighth, and heading into Sunday, the SCT Logistics Camaro driver sits a stunning sixth for the weekend so far.
“A bit of an up and down day. I felt like the first qualifying was frustrating and I felt like we had a lot of potential there but just didn't quite get the mark,” Jones said.
"However, we really turned it around for the second qualifying. As we've seen, qualifying is so important and sets up your race well - so I am really happy with that second race.
"We've got a really good crew and it's a lot of fun, so looking forward to tomorrow.”
Supercars.com analysis revealed Evans and Jones had made significant gains relative to last year, with team spearhead Andre Heimgartner leading the way. Heimgartner, though, was only 17th and 15th on Saturday.
Evans was delighted to record dual top 10s, something only Broc Feeney, Thomas Randle, Cam Waters and James Golding achieved on Saturday.
“It was a really good day overall, with my best qualifying in Supercars,” Evans said.
"Race 11 this morning went really well — I came home seventh, which is my best race result in Supercars so far. Then in the last race, I started ninth and finished eighth, but I had a lot of fun out there.
"I was pretty happy to be inside the top 10 in both races - so a big thanks to the whole team and SCT Logistics. We’ll dig into the data tonight and aim to come back strong again tomorrow.”
