  • Three of four Brad Jones Racing drivers have made key race gains in 2025

  • Andre Heimgartner has jumped from 14th in 2024 to eighth in 2025

  • Bryce Fullwood "can't catch a trick at the moment," claimed 2024 Tassie podium

While headline results haven't fallen in Brad Jones Racing's lap so far in 2025, the Albury team is quietly making unseen gains that could prove critical for its future.

Looking at each driver's year-on-year average race results, three of the four BJR drivers have made significant steps forward, backing up Heimgartner's claim.

Matt Stone Racing driver Cameron Hill has been arguably the standout of 2025 so far, with his 5.54 position gain the biggest of all drivers who completed all three opening rounds in 2024 and 2025.

Behind Hill are Tickford Racing duo Cam Waters (4.90) and Thomas Randle (3.72), with Waters just 34 points from the championship lead after his best start to a season.

Dick Johnson Racing recruit Brodie Kostecki's 2025 average is 6.56, but given he only contested one of the first three rounds in 2024, we have removed him from the table below. For the record, he had a 12.50 average after Round 3 last year, which would have placed him on top with a 6.94 gain.

BJR trio Heimgartner (3.44), Jones (3.38) and Evans (1.21) are all in the top nine drivers, proving BJR has found something that is working. Improved results may prove crucial amid Toyota's search for a second team, with BJR linked to a move to the Japanese marque from 2026.

It's not all roses, however, with Fullwood clearly regressing. The 2019 Super2 champion had a solid 13.00 average in 2023, which dropped to 15.71 last year and 16.89 this season.

All told, after three rounds, Heimgartner has jumped from 14th in 2024 to eighth in 2025. Jones has powered from 24th and last to 16th, a gain of eight, with Evans gaining five from 22nd to 17th. Fullwood, meanwhile, has dropped from 18th to 19th.

For what it's worth, Symmons Plains is the only circuit that BJR has claimed podiums in both years of the Gen3 era. Heimgartner finished second in the 2023 opener, while Fullwood claimed his first BJR podium in last year's finale.

The key for BJR is now to get Fullwood on the trend as his teammates, the Darwin-born driver saying after the New Zealand finale: "Feel like I can't catch a trick at the moment. Got a decent start and the car was actually really good, it was really fast.

"I felt like we were on for a really good race and unfortunately, had the steering rod unwind on me. Had half a lock of steering right hand down for the rest of race, so was a real shame. I feel like we would have had a good race.

"But all good on to Tassie, which is happy hunting ground for me so looking forward to it. "

Track action in Tasmania commences on Friday May 9. Tickets on sale now.
