Brown seventh heading to Ipswich, will race spare chassis
Supercars champion Will Brown is putting focus on hunting big results in Ipswich, despite admitting he’s not yet sure how to take news of recent days.
Both Supercars and Triple Eight responded to the revelations, while the latter has committed to putting Brown in a spare chassis for Ipswich. In announcing the chassis change, which came prior to this week's news, Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup insisted his team was "1000%" behind its driver.
Brown, whose last win came at Queensland Raceway last August, has now broken his silence on his Lucky Dogs podcast, saying: “Not really sure just yet how to take it, and sort of how to feel right now.
"It's one of those things that there's a little bit of relief, I'd say, in a way, but also not sure whether to be disappointed, angry, or what way because, from my point of view, it's been a very tough year.”
Brown enters Ipswich having failed to qualify in the top 10 in the last six races. He has two podiums and a pole through 25 starts, but his metronomic consistency has him seventh in the championship. Brown could clinch his Finals berth as early as The Bend.
Making the recent news tough to take comes after Brown made a concerted effort to enter 2026 a sharper, leaner prospect, having also scaled back his off-track responsibilities.
"I stepped back from a lot of things, to try and concentrate on a big year on a big year of racing,” Brown said.
“And to have the results we've been having, I sort of was looking at myself thinking that I probably... I actually at some stages said, 'I don't think I have it anymore’."
Brown paid particular tribute to engineer Andrew Edwards, his mechanics and management, but remained firm that he’s up for the fight.
However, Brown maintains that while the changes won’t be a silver bullet, he feels he is in a level playing field.
"I'm not at all saying that this is all of our problem,” Brown said.
"I just want to be on an even playing field to everyone else.
“We'll head to Ipswich, try and put our best foot forward. We want to try and win races, but like I say, it's not saying we're gonna go win, but we're gonna have a chance to win now.”
Track action in Ipswich commences on Friday August 21.
