Triple Eight "1000%" behind Will Brown, says Jamie Whincup
Brown will be moved into spare Triple Eight chassis for Ipswich
Brown winless since Ipswich last August, sits seventh
Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup has thrown his unequivocal support behind Will Brown, who will be moved into a new car in Ipswich.
The 2024 Supercars champion has been drastically outperformed this season by teammate Broc Feeney, who leads the race head-to-head 17-8, and qualifying head-to-head 18-7.
Through 25 races, Brown has two podiums to Feeney's 11, while Feeney has claimed all five of Triple Eight's wins and five of the six pole positions.
In the wake of a tough Perth, which saw Brown qualify 12th twice and 19th for the finale, Triple Eight has moved to shift the Queenslander into its spare chassis for the upcoming Ipswich event.
In a team statement, Whincup said the chassis change forms part of Triple Eight's learning process with the Mustang package.
"This chassis test is just one element of a significant learning program we're executing as part of our change to the Ford Mustang platform in 2026," Whincup said.
"The team and everyone in this building are 1000% behind Will and his crew."
Brown, 28, is contracted with Triple Eight — as is Feeney — through 2029.
Whincup insisted Brown — who moves into 888A-070, the first Triple Eight-built Mustang — is "one of the best drivers in the Supercars paddock" and that current results "don't reflect how fast he is or how well we know he can race."
Speaking post-race, the run of results had clearly irked Whincup, who told Supercars' Equip Super Cool Down Lap podcast: "We can't have car 888 qualifying in 19th. Whatever the issue is, we'll find it, we'll make sure Will and the 888 crew are back up the front very shortly."
Brown is still 290 points up on the Finals cut-line heading to Ipswich on August 21-23.
