Ford chasing rare Bathurst 1000 feat

It's writ large in 2026 that Ford is the one to beat at the 2026 Repco Bathurst 1000, after a dominant Supercars campaign for the Blue Oval.

Through 29 races and 10 rounds, Fords have won 23 times, to Toyota's four and Chevrolet's two. Ford also has 24 pole positions, to Toyota's three and Chevrolet's one.

For all its successes this year, the Ford camp should rightfully head to Bathurst looking to achieve a rare feat — consecutive wins at Mount Panorama.

In contrast to the Toyota and Chevrolet camps, Ford's fleet is abundant with potential race winners. Both cars from Penrite Racing and Red Bull Ampol Racing, and entries from Tickford Racing, Dick Johnson Racing and even Blanchard Racing Team could vie for victory.

On that alone, one can argue that Ford hasn't been this well placed for the Great Race in decades.

In the 63-year history of the race in Bathurst, Ford has gone back-to-back six times, but only twice in the last 37 years: Triple Eight's three-peat in 2006-08, and Ford Performance Racing's double in 2013-14.

Fords won the first three races between 1963 and 1965, before reeling off doubles in 1970-71, 1973-74, and 1988-89.

General Motors has — pardon the pun — had the lion's share of big streaks in Bathurst. GM has reeled off no less than 10 different win streaks, headlined by the Commodore's dominant seven-year run between 1999 and 2005. Before last year, GM ran in five straight wins.

The only other marque to reel off two or more wins on the bounce was Nissan, which was carried to a crushing double by Jim Richards and Mark Skaife across 1991 and 1992.

It's worth noting that only three combinations carried over into 2026 in the Ford camp: Brodie Kostecki/Todd Hazelwood, Cam Waters/Mark Winterbottom, and Will Brown/Scott Pye, the latter of which shared a Camaro last year.
