Unseen last lap dramas strike Camaro duo

It was a last lap to forget on an otherwise day to remember for Cooper Murray and Declan Fraser, who both ran out of fuel at the death.

The Erebus Motorsport and PremiAir Racing drivers propelled their Chevrolet Camaros forward in Sunday’s race, which was won by Broc Feeney.

However, both Camaros were struck down by fuel shortages on the 62nd and final lap, costing both of them positions in a tough end to the day.

Murray launched from 16th and Fraser from 26th, and commenced the final lap of the race in 10th and 17th respectively.

Murray was first to take his second stop of the race on lap 36, with Fraser stopping on lap 40. On the final tour, they both slowed, Murray passed by Aaron Cameron and Thomas Randle.

Fraser, meanwhile, ran out at the final corner.

“We were running in the top 10 until we ran out of fuel on the final lap, frustrating but can’t change it now,” the Erebus driver said.

Zach Bates and PremiAir teammate Jayden Ojeda picked of Fraser, who remained encouraged by his race performance despite the last lap stumble.

"We were able to move forward and were running 17th before unfortunately running out of fuel at the final corner on the last lap, which cost us a few positions,” Fraser said.

"That was obviously disappointing, but there was plenty to be encouraged by in the car."

Murray and Fraser will be joined by Lochie Dalton and Nash Morris respectively for the upcoming enduros.
