Sister Jayden Ojeda car raced to fifth in Sunday's race
PremiAir Racing is investigating the engine issue that halted the Declan Fraser Camaro just six laps from home in Sunday’s AirTouch 500 at The Bend.
The Jayden Ojeda/David Russell Chevrolet valiantly fought to fifth on Sunday, with Ojeda surviving a clash with Matt Payne in the closing laps.
That part of the race was where Fraser and Nash Morris’ day ended, with the #777 losing oil pressure and stopping between Turns 11 and 12.
It was a heartbreaking way for the day to end for the Fraser/Morris car, which had climbed from 24th to 17th.
An overnight engine change had taken place on the #777 Camaro for the second time in as many events.
“We’ll take fifth from that. It was a hard-earned fifth place for the #31 in very difficult conditions, so we’re very happy with that,” Team Principal Roland Dane said.
“Unfortunately, the #777 had an engine problem, which we’re still getting to the bottom of, but it was a very tough day for everyone out there with the conditions.
“We’re pleased to have moved Jayden up to 12th in the championship, and we’ve still got a shot at the top 10 depending on what happens at Bathurst.”
The DNF left Fraser 21st in the championship heading to Bathurst on October 8-11.
