David Reynolds fastest in final Sandown practice
2017 Bathurst winner pipped Finals Driver Chaz Mostert in dying seconds
Team 18 have placed both cars in the top three in both practice sessions
David Reynolds has topped the final practice session of the weekend at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500, as Team 18 carried their strong Practice 1 momentum and got both Camaros in the top three again.
The 2017 Bathurst winner blazed his way to a 1:08.5226s, pipping Walkinshaw Andretti United's Chaz Mostert in the final seconds by just 0.0667s.
The incoming GM homologation team were once again strong out of the gates, with both Reynolds and Anton De Pasquale appearing in first early, but it was Mostert who would assume the top spot on a 1:09.2923s.
Reynolds remained second with Mostert's teammate Ryan Wood settling into third before going to the top of the leaderboard on a 1:09.1418s. The two WAU Mustangs led the two Team 18 Camaros just prior to the halfway mark.
Jayden Ojeda then impressed in just his second ever session with PremiAir Racing when he shot to the top, before the Penrite Racing duo of Matt Payne and Kai Allen popped themselves into the top two.
The Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaros of Broc Feeney and Will Brown were curiously back in 15th and 16th respectively at the halfway mark, having not featured towards the front in Practice 1 either.
James Golding also leapt up to second to make it two PremiAir Camaros in the top four, with Cameron Hill rounding out the top five as the session entered it's final five minutes.
Hill then shot to the top with the first qualifying simulation, setting a 1:08.8711s as the opening benchmark for the session's happy hour, which he promptly bettered next time by to a 1:08.8077s.
Jack Le Brocq then jumped up to second, and Erebus teammate Cooper Murray went fastest on a 1:08.7014s, before Mostert set a 1:08.6166s to look like he would end Friday on top.
Whilst Reynolds would best him late, perhaps more pertinent to the championship battle was the form of Feeney and Brown, who both found speed late on their qualifying runs.
Feeney would wind up in fourth, whilst Brown finished seventh, and likely could've gone even quicker had he not spun at Turn 4 on his final flying lap after losing the rear off the Turn 3 exit kerb.
Next of the Finals Drivers was Cam Waters in eighth, followed by Tickford teammate Thomas Randle in 12th. After a strong start to the session, Payne and Allen could only muster 15th and 16th in the final results.
Saturday's Penrite Oil Sandown 500 action begins at 11:50am AEDT with Boost Mobile Qualifying, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 12:40pm. Race 30 will start at 3:20pm.
