PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge kicks off in opening race of 2025 in Sydney
PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge to return with 12-race preliminary series
Triple Eight ended BJR's PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge dominance last year
The PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge will return in 2025 with a 12-race preliminary series, starting at this month’s season opener – the 100km Friday race of the Thrifty Sydney 500.
The competition will continue as a team-based format, with each team defined by a pit boom and comprising two cars. The fastest pit stop from either car in each race will contribute to the team’s points tally.
Points will be awarded per race on a descending scale, with the fastest stop earning 13 points and the slowest earning 1 point. The 12 preliminary races will determine the top four teams that will compete in the live final.
The top four teams will compete head-to-head in a high-stakes, live eliminator final. The winner will claim $20,000 and the coveted PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge Golden Rattle Gun.
The 2024 competition ended in an epic showdown, when Triple Eight Race Engineering secured its maiden PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge title, edging out Matt Stone Racing in a photo finish on the streets of Bathurst’s CBD in front of hundreds of fans.
The victory marked Triple Eight’s first-ever PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge title, and the first defeat for five-time champions Brad Jones Racing after five consecutive titles between 2019 and 2023.
Supercars General Manager – Commercial, Jamie Black, said the long-standing partnership with PIRTEK continues to elevate pit lane excellence: “PIRTEK has been an integral part of Supercars for 28 years, and we’re excited to continue our partnership in 2025.
“The PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge is a true test of speed, teamwork, and precision, and last year’s thrilling finish in Bathurst was proof of how competitive this series has become.”
PIRTEK will continue as the Official Control Fuel and Air Hose Supplier of the Repco Supercars Championship in 2025, alongside its naming rights sponsorship of PIRTEK Victory Lane and the PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge.
PIRTEK Chief Commercial Officer, Robert Gatt, said the challenge continues to celebrate the dedication of Supercars pit crews: “The PIRTEK Pit Stop Challenge highlights the remarkable skill of the unsung heroes in pit lane and serves as an exceptional platform to showcase the reliability of our products in a high-performance environment.
“Last year’s final came down to a victory by millimetres and we look forward to another thrilling battle in 2025.”
The 2025 Repco Supercars Championship begins with the Thrifty Sydney 500 at Sydney Motorsport Park from 21-23 February. Tickets available through Supercars.com.
