Jaxon Evans repays faith shown by BJR in career Supercars weekend
Evans finished seventh, eighth and 11th in three Tasmania races
Evans qualified P6, P9 and P7, a far cry from previous qualifying average of 17.2
After 18 months of what-ifs, Jaxon Evans finally turned heads in Tasmania, and the Kiwi was quick to thank his Brad Jones Racing crew for staying the course.
The #12 SCT Logistics Camaro driver qualified in the top 10 for all three races, and was 0.1s shy on Sunday of reeling off a hat-trick of top 10 race finishes.
It was by far Evans' best weekend in Supercars since debuting in 2024, with the New Zealander also the highest-scoring BJR driver across the weekend.
Sunday could have been even better had Evans not been caught out by an ill-timed Safety Car, with the #12 Chevrolet ultimately falling just short of a top 10 behind Matt Stone Racing's Cameron Hill.
Regardless, Evans was full of praise for BJR, which on a weekend it confirmed a new deal with Toyota, was a standout performer in an ultra-competitive field.
"I got a decent start and felt like we were running our own race. Things were going well until we decided to pit based on our pre-race discussions," Evans said.
"Unfortunately, the Safety Car came out two laps later which that really hurt our strategy and slowed us down which was frustrating.
"Still, I think we did a good job recovering and fighting back. We finished just outside the top 10 so a bit of a frustrating way to end what was an otherwise very positive weekend.
"Big thanks to the team and the crew on Car 12 for sticking with it – hopefully they can see the light at the end of the tunnel."
Qualifying improvement was key for Evans, who qualified sixth, ninth and seventh. It was a staggering leap from his form across the first three rounds, which delivered a qualifying average of 17.2.
“Another strong day. I was really happy to qualify in the top 10 and make the Top Ten Shootout. It was great to have the track to myself," he said.
"The lap though was a bit of a compromise where I didn’t quite nail it but still managed to line up in seventh so I was happy with that.
"Three qualifying sessions this weekend and we were in the top 10 every time, which is great."
Evans is now 16th in the standings, 145 points from the top 10.
