The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport has tonight honoured David Brabham and Craig Lowndes among many others, at CAMS Evening of Honour held at Eureka Tower in Melbourne.
An event attended by FIA President Jean Todt, Sir Jack Brabham and other special guests, David Brabham won the award struck in the name of his famous father.
The Sir Jack Brabham award recognises outstanding achievement and success by an Australian motor sport competitor at International level.
While in the United States and not present for the awards because of racing commitments, David Brabham expressed his thanks for this award after a long and successful career, having moved overseas in 1987 after his formative years in Australian motor racing.
Brabham said "My father was a real inspiration to many Australians, inspiring drivers including myself and engineers to reach their dreams and it is a real honour for me to be receiving this Sir Jack Brabham Award, by my father."
Previous winners of the Sir Jack Brabham Award include Marcos Ambrose, Will Power and Mark Webber.
Craig Lowndes was named the 2012 Peter Brock Medal winner, considered by many to be a worthy winner including the Brock family who were present for the award.
Lowndes was found to have met all the criteria, having demonstrated outstanding driver ability whilst displaying a fair and sportsmanlike attitude, respect for authority, and support, encouragement and motivation of and for their peers, as well as a willingness and capacity to promote the sport in the wider community.
