Marcos Ambrose humbled by Supercars Hall of Fame induction

An all-time great is now a Supercars Hall of Famer — and yet, Marcos Ambrose one day didn’t believe he could even make it.
The Tasmanian was inducted into the Supercars Hall of Fame at Monday night’s Gala Awards in Adelaide, where he won the ‘500’ in 2004 and 2005.
Ambrose was the Ford hero who stopped Holden’s run of dominance in the sport, winning the 2003 and 2004 championships for Stone Brothers Racing.
While his stint was short-lived — he raced in the championship between 2001 and 2005 — Ambrose made a significant impact, and has left a lasting legacy.
Speaking on Monday night, the 28-time race winner was taken aback, and hailed new Barry Sheene Medallist Broc Feeney.
"I'm very humbled with this award,” said Ambrose, who was presented to the crowd by Mark Larkham.
"I never expected in a million years that I would even make it to Supercars, and to be here in the Hall of Fame...
"Barry Sheene was obviously a good friend of mine too back in the day. To see the award get given to a worthy person in Broc is incredible.
“I was only in the sport from 2001 to the end of 2005, but it was just an amazing time to be part of the sport."
Ambrose’s last championship came 21 years ago. The championship has changed dramatically since then, but the legendary driver likes what he sees.
"I feel so welcome to be back in the Supercars garage, and that's special,” Ambrose said.
"The sport's in great hands. We've got some amazing young drivers coming through. The Gen3 car has certainly been implemented and all the bugs are out of that. We've got an amazing new format too.
“Per size of our population, I don't think there's a better championship anywhere in the world."
