David Reynolds claimed surprise Townsville pole on Saturday
Team 18 became ninth different pole winner in 2025 season
2016 season leads the way with 11 different pole winners
David Reynolds' surprise pole position at the NTI Townsville 500 has pushed the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship towards rare air.
Through 21 completed races, 15 different drivers have already claimed a podium finish, with Brodie Kostecki becoming the eighth different driver to win a race.
Reynolds' Saturday pole in Townsville was his third at the Reid Park Street Circuit, and Team 18's second in Supercars after Tasmania 2019.
With 12 more Boost Mobile Pole Positions still to win this year, 2025 could yet become the season with the most different pole winners.
Since rounds were wholly contested with multiple races in 1992, the 2016 season leads the way with 11 different pole winners, followed by the first two seasons of the Gen3 era.
Should another new driver claim a pole before the season is out, all three seasons in the Gen3 era will have produced at least 10 different pole winners.

As far as the Gen3 era is concerned, there have been three major players: Broc Feeney, Brodie Kostecki and Cam Waters. Feeney has taken 10 in 2025 already, with Waters going three from three in Sydney.
Kostecki's march to the 2023 title featured a season-high 10 poles, and he added poles in Bathurst and Surfers Paradise last year before moving to Dick Johnson Racing this season.
Cam Waters claimed three poles in 2023, a season-high seven in 2024, and currently has three this season, all coming in Sydney.
It should be no surprise, then, that Triple Eight Race Engineering (24 poles), Erebus Motorsport (17) and Tickford Racing (16) lead the way.
Remarkably, of the 11 teams on the grid, only Blanchard Racing Team has yet to claim a pole position in the Gen3 era. Team 18 joined the party this season, courtesy of Reynolds.
