Brodie Kostecki lost 145 points to Broc Feeney in three races
DJR driver clashed with Chaz Mostert, David Reynolds in two of last three starts
Matt Payne jumped erstwhile leader Kostecki into second overall
Brodie Kostecki arrives on Tasmania Sunday on the back foot after a second blow in three races.
The Shell V-Power Racing Team star led the championship from Race 7 in Melbourne to Race 13 in Christchurch.
It was in the New Zealand finale that Kostecki clashed with reigning champion Chaz Mostert, with the Shell Ford dumped from fifth to 18th.
Kostecki bounced back in Saturday’s Tasmania opener to finish third behind Mostert and David Reynolds, despite copping a grid penalty.
As fate would have it, Reynolds hit Kostecki in the first stint of the second Tasmania race in the battle for fourth behind Ryan Wood.
Significant damage to the rear of his #17 Ford kept Kostecki stationary in pit lane for over 30 seconds, as Dick Johnson Racing mechanics repaired the car.
The end result was 24th and last, Kostecki dropping behind Matt Payne into third overall.
Per Supercars analyst Scott Sinclair, Kostecki has lost 116 points by being taken out in two of the last three races. He’d otherwise be leading by 32 points, instead of being 84 down.
Across the last three races, Kostecki is ranked 14th for points scored, and has been out-scored by Feeney by a whopping 145 points.
The Kostecki/Reynolds incident itself caught the attention of Feeney, who first saw the incident in the bp Cool Down Room after the race.
“It's when the person in front checks up, if you're sort of three deep or something like that, and the first person brakes early to hit the bottom line, then it all leads to concertina,” Feeney replied when asked about the clash by Supercars.com.
"So to be honest, once you hit your brake marker and you're in, you can't just push it harder and slow down. So I can get what's happened there, but that's Tassie racing.”
Supercars driver will return to the for Boost Mobile Qualifying from 11:35am local time on Sunday.
