David Reynolds claimed first podium of 2026 in Tassie opener
Reynolds bumped past teammate Anton De Pasquale early
2017 Bathurst winner admitted guilt, but still wrapt with top three finish
David Reynolds' return to the podium was welcome by team and driver alike, however the popular veteran admitted that he was wrapped with guilt early in the race.
Reynolds finished second behind a rampant Chaz Mostert in the weekend opener, but awkward inter-team contact with Anton De Pasquale wasn't in the script.
After Mostert scythed down the inside at Turn 6 on the second lap, Reynolds attempted to follow at the final corner, and bounced off the kerb into the DEWALT Camaro.
De Pasquale would fall back to an eventual sixth, but Reynolds he had contributed to the downfall of the early race leader.
"I had a stuff-up with Anton at the start and pushed him a bit wide, and I felt pretty bad about that. It took me about 10 laps to get over, but after that I was just head down," said Reynolds post-race.
Reynolds then further quipped that he got on the front foot to make up with his teammate: "I gave him a big kiss and he likes me again.
"The hardest thing is to pass your teammate, you have to do it the most respectfully without hitting them, and I just stuffed it all up.
"When you stuff over a friend of yours, I feel terrible, so it takes a while to get over the depression, and then you're like, 'I've got to get on with my own race'."
Having only finished inside the top 10 once heading into the fifth round of the season, the Snowy River Caravans Camaro has been one of the form cars in the field at Symmons Plains, consistently running at the head of the field.
With the car underneath him, Reynolds had to convert when it mattered most, and he did just that in Race 14 with a great drive to second, handing Chevrolet their second podium of the season to date.
It was a result that was desperately needed, with Reynolds entering the weekend 16th in points after a barren run across the ITM New Zealand Double Header, finding himself 216 points outside the Finals bubble.
"Motor racing is way more fun at the front, it's pretty depressing down at the back," Reynolds said.
"We rolled out of the truck pretty well yesterday, and we just made it better and better.
"During that race when Brodie [Kostecki] and Broc [Feeney] were coming at me we had the maximum stress going, and then they started fighting and I got like a second and a half gap and I'm like, 'Woohoo, we're home!'
"It was awesome, the Snowy River crew has done an awesome job this weekend. It's been a tough year, but I think it's going to turn around."
Reynolds will start from fifth on the grid for Race 15 on Saturday at 4:00pm AEST.
