Chevrolet Camaro given additional aero tweaks ahead of Tasmania
Latest changes convince David Reynolds that change in fortunes is imminent
Chevrolet have won six of the eight Gen3 races held in Tasmania
David Reynolds believes Camaro parity changes could turn his season around, amid mounting Finals pressure mounting and questions over his future.
The Camaro was granted an update to their aerodynamic package on the eve of the ITM Christchurch Super 440 last month. However, further track testing was carried out on Team 18's wildcard chassis at Queensland Raceway.
Following further analysis, further minor changes have been made to the car ahead of this weekend's action, aimed at optimising exisiting set up data for the four Chevrolet teams; Team 18, Matt Stone Racing, PremiAir Racing, and Erebus Motorsport.
Through much debate of the strength of Chevrolet's teams and drivers against the dominant roster of Ford, the facts are that GM have only gathered a single podium this season, courtesy of a win for Anton De Pasquale in Sydney.
However, De Pasquale's teammate Reynolds believes Tasmania can be a venue where the fortunes of both himself and Chevrolet can change, with the 2017 Bathurst winner currently 16th in points, and 216 points away from the Finals cut off.
“Tassie, I generally love going to this place," said Reynolds.
"It’s a funny little circuit that creates really good racing and I’ve had reasonable success there in the past, which kind of suits my style, brake as late as you can, get the car turned, and get out of the corners as quick as you can.
“It doesn’t sound like much to it, but it always creates a lot of good racing because there’s a few different lines at the hairpin you can take, and you can sort of sneak under people.
"You can always bump draft people and make good passes, so we’re looking forward to it.
“We’ve got a few changes on our car in the parity window, so hopefully that is going to bear some fruit for us and make our life a bit easier. I’m really looking forward to it.”
In the Gen3 era, Chevrolet have been dominant at Symmons Plains claiming six out of eight possible wins and pole position dating back to 2023.
Three of the four Chevrolet teams have strong form at the venue, PremiAir getting both of their cars inside the top 10 on round points last year, Erebus winning two of three races in 2023, and MSR claiming a shock win in 2024, and a podium in 2025.
Homologation team Team 18 have had mixed fortunes at Symmons Plains, with 2025 the team's worst round of the season for race pace per Supercars data analyst Scott Sinclair. However, Mark Winterbottom claimed the team's first ever pole in 2019.
De Pasquale is the lead Chevrolet in points, sitting seventh ahead of track action starting on Friday in Tasmania.
