Walkinshaw earmarks August track debut for first Toyota Supercar
Walkinshaw Andretti United has earmarked an August track debut for its first Toyota Supra Supercar ahead of the brand’s 2026 debut.
WAU will make a powerhouse switch from Ford to Toyota from the beginning of the 2026 Repco Supercars Championship.
Brad Jones Racing was confirmed as Toyota’s second team in May, with six Supras to go against 10 Fords and eight Chevrolets.
The Melbourne squad has been appointed Toyota’s homologation team, and is spearheading the development of the Supra body and engine.
WAU has given little away about the roll-out plan of the Supra and specific timelines, with CEO Bruce Stewart stating in May it would come in the second half of 2025.
Speaking on the broadcast in Townsville, WAU co-owner Ryan Walkinshaw said the team is hoping to get a Supra on track as early as next month.
"We’re hoping got get the Toyota on track for close to the end of August,” Walkinshaw said.
“Then we’ll start going through our testing procedures and have it ready for the beginning of the season next year.”
Beyond the ongoing work, WAU has already set its sights on 2026 by reverting Chaz Mostert into an older chassis for the Townsville round, amid plans to turn his newer chassis into a spare Supra.
WAU and BJR’s Toyota moves come as Triple Eight Race Engineering readies for a big move from General Motors to Ford.
Triple Eight, Tickford Racing, Grove Racing, Dick Johnson Racing and Blanchard Racing Team will race Mustangs, while Camaros will be run by homologation squad Team 18, Matt Stone Racing, Erebus Motorsport and PremiAir Racing.
