A Walkinshaw TWG Racing Toyota will hit the track at Tailem Bend this week as engine works continue.
The Japanese powerhouse joined Supercars in 2026 with homologation team Walkinshaw TWG Racing and Brad Jones Racing, and has been competitive throughout the season.
In a strong debut season, Supras have already claimed three wins through reigning champion Chaz Mostert, Ryan Wood and Andre Heimgartner, with Mostert and Wood currently in the top 10.
However, mechanical issues have forced Wood out of three races, Heimgartner two races, and Mostert one. Most recently, an airbox issue sidelined Wood in Sunday's Perth finale.
Reliability work has been ongoing in recent months on the 5.2-litre 2UR-GSE engine, which was developed by Walkinshaw TWG and UK-based Swindon Powertrains.
An issue in the valvetrain has already been identified, with an upgraded engine set to be run on Friday at The Bend Motorsport Park.
Walkinshaw TWG Racing has set a Repco Bathurst 1000 target for a fix.
Upon Wood's lastest DNF, Walkinshaw TWG Racing CEO Bruce Stewart insisted the Toyota program is on a journey, saying: "We’re learning but it doesn’t make it easy. We’re a proud team, we’ve got a great engine team, but it’s on us.
“We’ve got to do the learning, it’s our engine and in that respect... Toyota has a great saying: we race, we learn, you win. We’re in an uncomfortable learning period but we’ve got the right people and I know we’ll find the right solution."
The Toyota will share The Bend with a host of rising stars, who have been booked in for rookie tests.
Rylan Gray (Dick Johnson Racing), Zach Bates (Matt Stone Racing), Jayden Ojeda (PremiAir Racing) and Jackson Walls (Objective Racing) will all hit the track.
Team 18 wildcard driver Bayley Hall will also get laps in his Camaro ahead of his Supercars debut in Ipswich on August 21-23.
