Officials inspecting Turn 8 section following mid-week capital works
Thomas Randle leads Session 2 of the Destination NSW Sydney Test Day, which was suspended through 30 minutes as officials inspected Turn 8 following mid-week track works.
The week's testing has been split over two days across two different track layouts following urgent capital works at the Turn 8 hairpin.
The Wednesday session, held on the short Druitt Circuit, was held without little concern, despite a number of stoppages at the final corner due to gravel debris.
As the sun began to set over Sydney Motorsport Park, with Supercars returning to the traditional Gardner Circuit layout, the #55 Castrol Ford of Randle led the time sheets at the time of the stoppage.
After a brief inspection, the session resumed as darkness took over the Western Sydney venue.
Broc Feeney kicked off the session with a 1:31.2382s, followed by James Golding (1:31.3161s) and Matt Payne (1:31.5309s).
At the 13-minute mark, Anton De Pasquale laid down a 1:30.7886s to go fastest by more than 0.4s. On his following lap, the #18 DEWALT Chevrolet moved the marker to 1:30.7270s, while Cam Waters improved to third with a 1:31.2637s.
David Reynolds in the #20 Snowy River Caravans Chevrolet lowered the number to a 1:30.5075s through 17 minutes, forming a Team 18 one-two, before Randle blew it out of the water with a 1:30.1987s.
After sitting out the opening 20 minutes, Ryan Wood moved his #2 Mobil 1 Truck Assist Toyota to sixth, but Randle was still 0.8s up the road.
Before the stoppage, Matt Stone Racing recruit Jack Le Brocq slashed the deficit to Randle to 0.07s after logging a 1:30.2766s.
