Chaz Mostert "was up for a race" in Broc Feeney battles
2025 title rivals crossed paths twice in dramatic fashion on Saturday
Feeney finished ahead of Mostert in both Taupō battles
Reigning Supercars champion Chaz Mostert believes all drivers are "keeping scores" after resuming on-track hostilities with Triple Eight rival Broc Feeney in Taupō.
Saturday's Taupō action saw 2025 title combatants Mostert and Feeney get into it twice, first on the back straight in the first race, before crossing paths in the closing laps of the second race.
The sight of Mostert and Feeney banging doors down the back straight rammed home the rivalry between Triple Eight Race Engineering and Walkinshaw TWG Racing, which boiled over in last year's Finals, and flowed into 2026.
Mostert and Feeney famously clashed in the Gold Coast finale, before the controversial Feeney/Ryan Wood collision in the Adelaide finale lit the fuse under the rivalry.
Triple Eight swapped Camaros for Mustangs, and WTWGR Mustangs for Supras. However, the tension remains high between the two camps, from on-track battles to podcasts.
For Mostert, the focus is the on-track action. When asked about his battles with Feeney and if that was the nature of what to be expected in the heat of battle, Mostert replied: "We're all keeping scores. The last two years for me, if you cop a whack, you like to try and sort it out yourself out there.
“It's just like tennis, you know. It's a nice rally going on out there. It’s one for one, and it keeps going. If someone hits you a slice, so you wanna come with a big forehand.
“The beautiful thing about the cars, they've got nice big guards… as long as you don't touch wheels, it's okay. It creates a bit excitement and goes from there."
Wood also went to war with Feeney's teammate Will Brown in the final laps of the first race, with Brown winning that battle.
It immediately cast minds back to Sandown last year, when Brown overhauled the ultra-defensive Wood as Mostert fought to hang onto the lead.
It was a far cry to how drivers battled the runaway Brodie Kostecki at the Grand Prix, prompting Feeney to call out his rivals on the Drivers Only podcast for not racing the Shell V-Power Ford star harder.
Those comments weren't lost on Mostert, who insisted he won't back down from a battle.
“[Feeney] was disappointed at the Grand Prix that no one's racing Brodie,” Mostert added.
"I was up for a race."
The 2026 Supercars season resumes in Christchurch on April 17-19.
