Broc Feeney reacts to Chaz Mostert clashes, Walkinshaw TGR rivalry
Feeney and Mostert clashed repeatedly on back straight in Race 8
Feeney split Ryan Wood and Mostert in Taupō finale
For all of the tension between Triple Eight and Walkinshaw TWG Racing, Broc Feeney isn't getting too swept up despite being embroiled in a number of flashpoints in Taupō.
Much was made of the end to 2025 and how it would spill into 2026, with Feeney and Ryan Wood at the centre of things following their Adelaide clash.
Tension bubbled over in recent weeks after podcast appearances from team bosses Jamie Whincup and Ryan Walkinshaw, before talking was done on track in Taupō on Saturday.
The simmering rivalry between the two teams spilled over in Saturday's first race when Feeney and Chaz Mostert had repeated side-to-side contact on the back straight.
Post-race, Triple Eight Team Manager Mark Dutton told media that the hits were "silly" and "a bit uncalled for."
Feeney emerged as WTWGR's biggest headache come the second race, which was won by Wood. Feeney caught and passed Mostert for second, with Feeney taking big risks to make the pass stick.
All told, the back straight clashes in the first race raised the biggest eyebrows, but Feeney wasn't reading too much into it.
“He ran wide at [Turn] 11, so I drove under him and then came down the back straight,” Feeney told Supercars' Equip Super Cool Down Lap podcast.
“I don't know, [Mostert] turned hard left. So, anyway, we had a few bumps. And then, yeah, we had another bump in the last one.
“But anyway, it's good racing. Didn't expect a big hit down the straight, but that's alright. We're all racing hard, he's having a crack. I'm having a crack.”
Feeney sat between Wood and Mostert in the bp Cooldown Room post-race, before sharing the podium and press conference with the WTWGR drivers.
When asked about the rivalry, Feeney replied: “I mean, [I’m] just trying to win races. So whatever I’ve got to do to try and win a race, we're going to do.
“But yeah, rivalries… I mean obviously, it's all going to be talk. We’re just getting on with our jobs and I'm certainly not getting into it. I'm just focusing on being the best version I can and trying to be fast.
“A fast car fixes a lot of problems. So, stoked to have a fast one today, drive through the pack, put a few good moves on. Good to have a fast car and a trophy.”
Feeney moved to second in the championship, and heads to Christchurch second in the Jason Richards Trophy standings.
Races will take place on all four days of the ITM Christchurch Super 440, which gets underway on Friday April 17.
