Will Brown admitted he wasn’t a fan of being impeded by Ford rival Cam Waters amid the redress attempts that lit the fuse for an all-time classic finish in Sydney.

Tickford Racing star Waters beat Triple Eight Race Engineering teammates Broc Feeney and Brown in an unbelievable drag race to the line in Saturday’s Thrifty Sydney 500 - Opening Round race.

The wild finish came after a dramatic sequence of events that stemmed from Waters sending Feeney into a spin at Turn 4 on lap 49, which brought Brown into play.

Waters attempted to let Feeney past in an initial redress attempt, with third-placed Brown getting past his teammate and running alongside Waters to Turn 6.

Waters hung Brown out the dry at Turn 6, the duo making contact as the recovering Feeney got up the inside. Waters baulked again, leaving Brown with nowhere to go through Turn 7. Feeney then escorted Waters towards the grass verge.

All told Feeney was back in the lead through Turn 8, with Waters and Brown just behind. As the trio exited Turn 8, Brown remonstrated over team radio, saying: "He can't just redress like that."

Speaking after the race, Brown joked he had flashbacks of Feeney’s clash with Chaz Mostert in Adelaide last November, but took issue with the impeding nature of the second redress attempt.

“It was wild racing. I was just trying to keep as close as I could to Cam when he was pulling away because I knew they'd get in a battle at the end,” Brown said.

“It felt like Adelaide at the end of last year when I saw Broc spinning around.

"The only thing that I probably don't agree with is the impeding when Cam was redressing. I thought I was going to get around and he was redressing for Broc.

“But he made that thing as wide as a bus and sort of did a very good job of it to keep me behind while sort of slowing me down to let Broc back past.

"So, not sure I agree about that, but the rest of the racing was really good.”

Despite the defeat, Brown echoed Feeney's remarks about a perceived new standard of racing standards, adding: "I think that race sets a new standard as to what we can and can't do, and I think it's good.

"I think we need to race hard. All the fans love it. It was a cool race. We just probably need to know what we can get away with and get into it and keep doing that."

Waters leads the Repco Sprint Cup standings by 42 points over Mostert. Brown is third, 45 points down, with Feeney 60 points behind in sixth.

Supercars will return to the track on Sunday at 11:10am AEDT for Boost Mobile Qualifying, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 1:05pm.

The 200km Race 3 will commence at 4:05pm.
