Cam Waters will remain the official winner of Race 2 following a Triple Eight request into an investigation of the final-lap contact with Broc Feeney.

Waters made contact with leader Feeney at the final corner, setting up a thrilling drag race to the finish line to decide the winner of Saturday's Thrifty Sydney 500 - Opening Round race.

It came after Waters sent Feeney into a spin with four laps remaining, leading to a dramatic series of redress attempts that brought Will Brown into play.

The contact and redress attempts were investigated in-race and later cleared, before contact at the final corner saw Waters get up the inside of Feeney.

After the race, Triple Eight Race Engineering sought clarity from officials after the race over the final-corner contact. Governing body Motorsport Australia later confirmed to the team that there would be no change to the results, confirming victory for Waters.

On the battle, Feeney said: "My tyres were a little bit hot after going backwards, but we were obviously racing real hard at the end, and copped a bit of a hit at the last corner.

"As I said, I think he tried to readdress, but then was able to slipstream back up past me."

Waters, meanwhile, said: "I think there probably wasn't a lot in that Turn 4 incident, I thought I would give the spot back anyway and keep racing hard, and that's what we did and I hope we put on a great show for the fans, massive thank you to everyone that came tonight.

"I just hoped that I could get him across the line. I ducked my head down under the steering wheel and tried to get whatever I could and get a little bit of a side draft, and all the power in this Ford got me across the line."

Supercars will return to the track on Sunday at 11:10am AEDT for Boost Mobile Qualifying, followed by the Boost Mobile Top Ten Shootout at 1:05pm.

The 200km Race 3 will commence at 4:05pm.
