Brown to move into spare Triple Eight Mustang
2024 champion sits sevenths, 467 points behind teammate
Will Brown will move into a Triple Eight's spare Ford Mustang Supercar following recent struggles, the team has confirmed.
The 2024 Supercars champion currently sits seventh in the championship, nearly 500 points behind teammate Broc Feeney, heading to Ipswich.
Brown has just two podiums and a pole position to his name through eight rounds and 25 races, versus Feeney’s five wins, four poles and 11 podiums.
While Triple Eight’s move from Chevrolet to Ford has been highly publicised, the gap between Feeney and Brown has widened. Feeney leads the race head-to-head 17-8, and qualifying head-to-head 18-7.
Speaking after Sunday’s Perth finale, when Brown finished 17th, team boss Jamie Whincup left the door open to a chassis change, saying: “We've got to find out what's actually going on, get to the bottom of it, and then work out what it is.
"We can't have car 888 qualifying in 19th. Whatever the issue is, we'll find it, we'll make sure Will and the 888 crew are back up the front very shortly.
“We'll make sure that we use science and not some theory or some feeling or anything. We'll apply science, work out what the issue is, and make the relevant changes to make sure he's back up the front.”
Confirmed Tuesday, Triple Eight will move Brown into the team's spare chassis for Ipswich, as the Queenslander aims to secure his place in the 2026 Finals.
Brown moves into 888A-070, the first Triple Eight-built Mustang.
"Will is one of the best drivers in the Supercars paddock, the 2024 series champion," Whincup said in a team statement.
"The #888 car's most recent results don't reflect how fast he is or how well we know he can race.
"We're throwing the kitchen sink at it. Whatever it takes to getting the #888 where it needs to be ready to race at the front of the field — we'll leave no stone unturned."
Track action in Ipswich commences on Friday August 21.
