Kai Allen, Will Brown react to qualifying disasters
Power steering issue halts Allen, set to start from 23rd
Brown 19th for the third time in last six attempts
A power steering issue has hamstrung Kai Allen in Perth, with Will Brown encountering yet another Boost Mobile Qualifying nightmare.
A day after racing to the podium, Allen was undone in Q1 as he dragged his oily Penrite Racing Ford back to the garage.
Allen sat sixth before the final runs in Q1, but could only watch on as the times tumbled, dropping the South Australian all the way down to 23rd — his worst qualifying result of the season.
Brown, meanwhile, qualified 19th for the third time in the last six races. Across the last two rounds, the 2024 Supercars champion has a qualifying average of 15.5.
2010 Supercars champion James Courtney labelled Brown’s elimination as “shocking.”
“Not fast enough,” a frustrated Brown said on the broadcast.
“Nothing happened, we’re just not quick enough. We’ll look at it again and go from there, pretty average. We’re a tenth off down the straight to Broc. That puts us in.”
A suspected burst hose has Penrite Racing facing a possible steering rack change for the #26 Mustang, with Allen disappointed to miss out on a maiden Boost Mobile Pole.
“No one here’s fault, it just let go,” a flat Allen said.
“It’s lucky it didn’t happen in the race, we would’ve been in a bit of trouble.
“We made a big jump from yesterday, even on that first lap, very disappointing, we were on for a good shot.”
