Rylan Gray claims first career Super2 win as Tickford dominate
Several incidents throughout the field in chaotic race
Gray now takes the points lead from Jordyn Sinni
Rylan Gray has dominated Race 3 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series at the Snowy River Caravans Tasmania Super 440 to claim his maiden Super2 race victory.
Whilst there was incidents and accidents aplenty further back in the pack, it was a dominant display from Tickford Autosport, with Reuben Goodall remaining line astern with his teammate for the entire race distance.
By virtue of his maiden race win, the 18-year-old has claimed the series lead by 15 points from Jordyn Sinni, becoming the third different series leader in as many races.
It was a frenetic start to the first Super2 race in Tasmania since 2018, and as Gray and Goodall cleared away at the front of the pack, there was mayhem behind.
Zach Bates gave Nash Morris the hip and shoulder at Turn 1, however worse was to come at the hairpin, as Bates was speared by Eggleston teammate Elliott Cleary and spun in front of half the pack.
Cleary sustained heavy damage to the front of the #38 Commodore, whilst the rear of Bates' #1 entry was stowed in as well, with Cleary receiving a drive through penalty for his troubles.
Jarrod Hughes was forced to park up in avoidance of the Bates car, whilst the scattered pack were beating and banging down the back straight, with Jordyn Sinni nearly being turned in front of Nash Morris.
Jackson Walls then capitalised on the collision, and made it three wide at Turn 6, but came off second best after closing off Sinni on corner exit.
Whilst Gray, Goodall, and Mason Kelly all cleared away at the front of the pack in their respective grid order, there was plenty of action further back in the pack, as Turn 6 proved a hot spot.
Ayrton Hodson and Bailey Sweeny both went off in sympathy on Lap 2, whilst Matt Hillyer had two offs, and Max Geoghegan also joined the club.
The Turn 4 hairpin was also the scene of more drama, as Cameron McLeod ended Lochie Dalton's aspirations after damaging the Tasmanian's exhaust with a clumsy move.
McLeod, who claimed a breakthrough victory to start the year, was handed a costly drive through penalty for his efforts, ultimately finishing down in 18th.
Hughes also found more trouble at the hairpin, tagging Bradi Owen into a spin that ultimately led to the Eggleston rookie's retirement, a drive through for Hughes, and the first Safety Car of the 2025 season.
After the restart, Geoghegan would be spun at the hairpin on the first green flag lap, with Hughes once again in the middle of the action, with the 2024 rookie of the year retiring as a result.
Hillyer also went off at Turn 4 with four laps to go, the WAU rookie going deep into the gravel trap, though Race Control elected to use double waved yellows to avoid a Safety Car finish.
Behind Gray and Goodall, Mason Kelly drove a superb race to claim third, and his first podium finish in the Dunlop Super2 Series, ahead of Cody Burcher, and Brad Vaughan, who charged from 16th to fifth.
Next was Sinni, who limited the points damage after starting 11th, however his car was worse for wear, and caught fire after returning to the Super2 paddock.
Morris claimed seventh, ahead of Hobart's Campbell Logan, and Triple Eight duo Ben Gomersall and Jackson Walls.
Boost Mobile Qualifying for Race 4 of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series begins at 9:00am AEST, before the first-ever Top Five Shootout at 10:55am AEST.
