Jackson Walls claims first race, round wins at Ipswich
Triple Eight rookie leads from lights to flag in dominant display
Walls snaps a five-race winning streak for Tickford
Jackson Walls has claimed his maiden race and round wins in the Dunlop Super2 Series with a faultless drive in the final race of Round 4 at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440.
The Triple Eight rookie led from lights to flag in a commanding display, ending Tickford's five race winning streak by fending off Nash Morris and Lochie Dalton following a late race Safety Car restart.
It marked Triple Eight's first race win in the Dunlop Super2 Series since Declan Fraser won the final race of the 2022 season in Adelaide, and has brought the Sydneysider closer to the top four in the points standings.
"I just love QR, it's just the best track in the world," Walls said.
"We executed really well today, I've had a good car all year, just haven't put it together. The team put in so much hard work. They really deserve it.
"I've done a lot of racing with Nash, I knew it was going to be pretty tough, but I wasn't scared of it. What's the worst that could happen?"
The field was reduced by two for this afternoon's race, with Jarrod Hughes out after his heavy accident yesterday and Elliott Cleary once again electing not to take the start with his left wrist injury.
It was an even jump off the front row for Walls and Morris, who bashed doors twice on the run to Turn 1, Walls eventually firing down the inside and maintaining his advantage.
Further back in the pack, Zach Bates was welcomed back to the Super2 world when he was squeezed wide at Turn 5 by Ben Gomersall, before firing off the road at Turn 6 following a massive lockup.
After starting sixth, Brad Vaughan began to slip back through the pack after burning his clutch at the start, with Campbell Logan joining him at the rear of the field after going off at Turn 6.
Logan would the go off again at Turn 3 and park the #2 Commodore on Lap 15 after losing front brake pressure at Turn 3, bringing the Safety Car out at the halfway stage of the 40-minute race.
When the race went back to green on Lap 20, there was just under seven minutes remaining, and Morris stuck with Walls off the initial restart as the Triple Eight Commodore fired off the final corner.
There was plenty going on in the midfield, as Cody Burcher and Bailey Sweeny boxed on at Turn 5, with Sweeny escorted wide and tumbling down the pack, with Max Geoghegan then going off at Turn 6 after going three-wide with Sweeny and Jobe Stewart.
Bates' wild race then went from bad to worse when he speared into the side of Ayrton Hodson at Turn 6 in a fight at the back of the field, with Bates eventually bringing the #1 Commodore into the lane and retiring.
Sweeny was also involved in an incident on the final corner of the race, with Bradi Owen copping the worst of it and being pushed wide after a touch from Jobe Stewart.
Cameron McLeod was the best of the rest in fourth, followed by series leader Rylan Gray, Burcher, Matt Hillyer, Gomersall, Cody Gillis, and Reuben Goodall.
The penultimate round of the 2025 Dunlop Super2 Series will take place at the Repco Bathurst 1000 from October 9-12, which will feature a Boost Mobile Top Five Shootout on Friday.
