Anderson Motorsport make statement signings for 2026 Super2 season
Zak Best returns to drive, Ludo Lacroix snapped up as Competition Director
Best to partner Ryan Tomsett, who will be mentored by Will Davison
Anderson Motorsport aren't leaving anything to chance as they look to return to title contention in the 2026 Dunlop Super2 Series.
The Bathurst-based team have announced several high-profile acquisitions for the new season, led by the return of Zak Best and the signing of Ludo Lacroix as Competition Director and Best's engineer.
The Frenchman will be reunited with the Dick Johnson Racing-built Mustangs he was instrumental in developing for Scott McLaughlin's dominant runs to main game titles in 2019 and 2020.
Best meanwhile returns to the team he drove for in 2023, when he fell just six points short of claiming an elusive Super2 crown on the streets of Adelaide. It marked the third consecutive season that Best finished as runner-up.
After Max Vidau fell short of claiming the rookie title in 2024, Anderson experienced a tough campaign having expanded to two cars last year, with rookies Ayrton Hodson and Ryan Tomsett finishing well outside the top 10 in points.
Matt Stone Racing announced they had signed Hodson in December, paving the way for Best and Anderson to resume their successful partnership which netted two wins and three poles in 2023.
“I’m very excited to bring back Zak, who is one of the best drivers in the country, to come in and drive for us again after we fell just short in Adelaide two years ago. His experience and driving ability speaks for itself," said team owner Michael Anderson.
“Combine that with Ludo coming along, as someone who has been so influential in most championships in the past 20 years won by Triple Eight or DJR. I doubt there’s anyone more credentialed as an engineer to come in and be part of our team.
“He was very influential into the designing and making of the Gen2 cars, and was very successful running them himself with DJR.
“They were the unstoppable force to be reckoned with in the Gen2 era, there wouldn’t have been too many combinations that were as successful as them.
“He knows the cars inside out, how to switch them on to make them exactly where they need to be.”
18-year-old Tomsett returns after a promising rookie season highlighted by topping the opening practice session of Round 5 at the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Tomsett will also have a bolstered network around him, with two-time Bathurst winner and former DJR driver Will Davison signed by the team to act as a mentor for the second-year driver.
"Someone with Will’s experience, knowledge and expertise around all aspects, not just in the car but out of the car, every part of the system – driver fitness, media commitments, all those sorts of things – is going to be great for Ryan to be the best he can.”
The 2026 Dunlop Super2 Series will begin at the Sydney 500 from February 20-22. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
