Nissan Motorsport has put in a strong performance at the sydney.com SuperTest, with the Kelly brothers topping all three sessions today.
Rick Kelly was quickest over the first two sessions on hard Dunlop tyres, and in the scrum of the last run Todd Kelly bolted on soft tyres and recorded a 1min29.5352 lap of Sydney Motorsport Park - the day's best.
James Courtney in the Holden Racing Team Commodore was home second, an amazing 0.0008sec behind, while the Nissan combination of Michael Caruso/Dean Fiore, which held the top of the table for much of the day, ended the day third.
"We've got a lot of work to do," Todd Kelly said, despite the small victory.
"There is quite a lot of time left in the car, and I'm not sure whether many people ran quality tyres, so I don't want to read too much into where we ended up.
"We're genuinely in the top 10 ... we'll see tomorrow."
Issues with David Wall's Volvo meant the #34 triggered a red flag (after losing a wheel), leaving the field a few minutes for a final go, endingsimilarly to a qualifying run with a number of names duking it out for the top time.
Lee Holdsworth, now part of Walkinshaw Racing was fourth, and Rick Kelly fifth, confirming to v8supercars.com.au he used hard tyres in that final session.
David Reynolds came home sixth, with the final Nissan shared by James Moffat and Taz Douglas, Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander and rookie Ash Walsh with Erebus Motorsport rounding out the top 10.
Others to note include Mark Winterbottom 12th - the first of the FG X Falcons, Marcos Ambrose 15th, and reigning champ Jamie Whincup 18th.
