James Courtney to record 600th Supercars race start in Ipswich opener
Courtney has won 15 races, the 2010 championship, claimed 10 poles
Veteran to join Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander and Mark Winterbottom in '600 club'
For a driver on the cusp of 600 race starts, you'd expect James Courtney to have racked up some pretty impressive numbers in his time. True to form, he has.
A junior world karting champion seemingly destined for Formula 1, Courtney will become just the fourth driver to record 600 ATCC/Supercars Championship race starts at the Century Batteries Ipswich Super 440.
It seems fitting that his milestone will come at the place he captured his first Supercars victory, some 17 years ago. Back then, many doubted whether Courtney could reach the absolute top of the sport.
In true Courtney form, he proved everyone wrong, claiming a stunning championship triumph in 2010.
A larrikin off track, Courtney has left a lasting legacy on the sport, and one that will be sorely missed when he pulls up stumps at the end of the season.

In the record books, Courtney won't depart as the most successful driver, a mantle held by old rival Jamie Whincup. However, the manner of Courtney's wins were a mark of the man, from stunning charges in Adelaide, to defying injury and the odds on the Gold Coast.
Ahead of the veteran's 600th start, Supercars.com picks out the key numbers of Courtney's career.
1
Courtney is a proud Supercars champion, winning his first and only title in 2010 with Dick Johnson Racing. It came in his fifth season, and second with DJR.
2
Courtney won the Adelaide 500 twice, in consecutive years in 2014 and 2015. He also won the second sprint in 2016. Courtney is one of six drivers to have claimed overall Adelaide honours more than once.
15
Courtney has 15 race wins, which have come at eight different tracks: Ipswich (four wins), Adelaide (three), Winton (three), Abu Dhabi, Gold Coast, Homebush, Sandown and Townsville (one apiece). His 15 wins has Courtney ranked 23rd all-time.
3
Courtney's 15 wins came at three different teams across two brands, highlighting his versatility and adaptability. He won seven times with Dick Johnson Racing and the Holden Racing Team, following his 2008 breakthrough with Stone Brothers Racing.

66
Courtney has 66 podiums at 18 different tracks. Of his 66, 11 have come in Adelaide alone, followed by six in Tasmania, Townsville and Ipswich. He claimed 31 podiums in Fords, and 34 in Holdens. His best seasons were 2010 and 2014 with nine podiums. 2024 was the only year between 2006 and 2025 that Courtney failed to record at least one podium finish.
75
All told, Courtney has recorded 75 top three race finishes, with Adelaide (12) and Ipswich (10) his favourite hunting grounds. He claimed 41 top threes in Fords, and 34 in Holdens. It's worth noting the discrepancy between top threes and podiums is due to podiums being based purely off round results up to the end of 2008.
4
Courtney is also a four-time Bathurst podium finisher, in 2006, 2007 and 2008 with Stone Brothers Racing, and in 2019 with Walkinshaw Andretti United. He finished third with Glenn Seton in 2006, before reeling off two alongside David Besnard. In 2019, he raced to third with Jack Perkins.
10
Courtney scored 10 poles at seven different tracks, his 10th and most recent coming at the 2015 season finale at Sydney Olympic Park. He claimed two poles in Adelaide, Winton and Darwin.
4
In the upcoming Ipswich opener, Courtney becomes just the fourth driver to reach 600 starts. Only Craig Lowndes (679), Garth Tander (646) and Mark Winterbottom (645) are ahead.
