  • Four of top five 'youngest ever' podiums set in last 12 months

The new wave of Repco Supercars Championship talent continues to shine, with the Race 3 podium in Melbourne resetting a new 'youngest ever' record.

Broc Feeney led home Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Will Brown and Penrite Racing driver Matt Payne in Race 3 at Albert Park on Thursday afternoon.

21-year-olds Feeney and Payne were joined by 25-year-old Brown on the podium, with the trio combining for an average age of 22 years and 327 days, breaking new ground in Supercars.

It undercut the previous record, an average age of 23 years and 234 days, set by Feeney, Brown and Brodie Kostecki in the 2023 Perth finale.

Feeney, Brown and Kostecki would share two further podiums at the following round in Tasmania, with the trio forming the top three 'youngest ever' Supercars podiums, until now.

The Perth podium undercut the previous record, which had stood since 2006, when Jamie Whincup (23) led home Kelly brothers Todd (26) and Rick (23) in Adelaide.

The achievement wasn't lost on Feeney, who last year broke the 'youngest ever' pole winner record, and also become became the youngest driver to win the Sandown 500.

"It's awesome to see people giving young drivers a shot," Feeney said.

"Obviously what my team did with myself, and what Groves did with Matty.

"It just seems so similar to what I went through 12 to 18 months ago, he wins Adelaide and then comes out and has a great start to the year.

"Will now is the old guy here, he's actually pushing the age up! It's unreal to think that 25, 21, 21... pretty wild to be sitting up here."

Brown, Feeney and Payne will start Friday's race from second, third and fifth.

Feeney leads Brown by two points in the championship, with Payne now fourth.
